Roof Installation Guide
What homeowners should expect during a residential roof installation project, from first call to final walkthrough.
1. Inspection and scope
An independent roofing professional walks the property, evaluates the existing roof, decking, ventilation, flashing and any visible damage, then proposes a scope of work.
2. Materials selection
You choose between asphalt shingle and metal roofing systems, with options for shingle type, profile, color, finish and warranty tier.
3. Permits and scheduling
The contractor pulls required permits and schedules the project around weather windows and material availability.
4. Tear-off and decking inspection
Existing materials are removed and the underlying decking is inspected. Damaged decking is replaced before new materials go on.
5. Underlayment, flashing and installation
Ice-and-water shield, synthetic underlayment, drip edge, step flashing, the new roofing material and ventilation are installed to manufacturer specifications and local code.
6. Cleanup and final walkthrough
The site is cleaned, a magnetic sweep is performed for nails, and a final inspection confirms the work is complete.
